Work

I am currently (in 2024) updating my website.
What follows is based on my work experience
from before 2021.

Please check my LinkedIn for my most
up-to-date work experience.

I am always striving to improve myself
and to do meaningful work. I love to do
work that can make a difference in the
lives of others, particularly through
shared experiences and realizations.

Thesis

Since January, 2015, I have been
employed by Atlatl Software Inc.
as a Unity/C# developer. Atlatl
creates 3D configurators for
PC, Mac, and iOS devices, to be
used in assisting a client's
sales process. These configurators
integrate with Atlatl's CRM
service and are often specialized for
manufacturers or industrial distributors.

My responsibilities have included
creating in-house development
tools, leading a team in
project development, profiling and
optimizing code, estimate technical risk,
implementing new features, assisting
in tool/project design, and
reviewing/guiding other developers.

I was the lead developer of
Pool Maker Pro, a shipped iOS app
(no longer available) that enabled
salespersons to engage potential
clients in a real-time rendered,
backyard pool design process.

More recently, I have owned the data
modeling and logic/behavior aspects of
the QuoteBooks3D in-house framework
that integrates with Unity. This has
included the designing and architecting of
custom development tools for defining,
unique, dynamic, and scalable, systems
and structures of client applications.

This work has broadened and deepened
my C# programming skills, has made me
extremely capable of programming with
the Unity game engine, has improved my
understanding of version control with
SourceTree and Git, and has given me
experience working in a professional
environment with project coordination
through JIRA. I have also exercised my
ability to architect large complex systems
with little-to-no guidance.

HP's Project Merlin

I have worked twice with HP,
through SCAD, on a project called
Merlin. Both instances are under
NDA, but I can reveal the following.

During the first instance,
"SCAD is collaborating with
Hewlett-Packard to explore physical
environments and mental states in
which people can be inspired on a
daily basis to foster practical
creativity in their digital media
work. The goals of the study is to
understand how HP's advanced digital
technology could become part of
people's daily lives, enhancing the
quality of their work and enriching
their experience and sense
of accomplishment."

In the second,
"SCAD is collaborating with Ixonos
and Hewlett-Packard to design
original content showcasing the
capabilities of 'Project Merlin',
a recently developed Hewlett-Packard
product that provides an intuitive
experience for non-designers to
create well-designed content."

The first experience gave me
an opportunity to exercise
critical thinking through the
research and subsequential
exploration of design.

The second was far more graphical
than what I usually do, so I
was given the chance to broaden
my horizons by learning about
the field of graphic design.
I also applied my own
out-of-the-box thinking to
use programming in order to
overcome creative limitations.

Push2Screen

Push2Screen (P2S) was an unreleased
app developed by myself and a few
others. The app included a web-based
interface and an associated device.
The user would set playlists and slides
online, and could then select
playlist to be shown on a monitor
attached to the device.

I was leading development on the device,
determining the necessary technical
specifications and handling the core
programming. The experience was
valuable through working on a very
technical-focused project with Unity.

Resident Assistant

As an undergraduate student
at Bethel College, KS, I
had the honor of serving
as a Resident Assistant for
2 and a half years.

During this time, I was
responsible for nearly 20
students living within my
hall, as well as upholding
the standards of the college
throughout the campus.

I led student activities
and served as a counselor to
students on many occasions,
as there was no official
counselor at the time. In
my final year I was named
RA of the Year.

This experience improved
my discipline, communication,
people skills, critical thinking,
and ability to resolve conflicts.
